Preparing for corporate worship October 23

“The Lord is high above all nations; His glory is above the heavens. Who is like the Lord our God, who is enthroned on high, who humbles Himself to behold the things that are in heaven and in the earth?” (Psalm 113:4-6). The answer, of course, is: There is no one “like the Lord our God.” He has established the nations. He has created the heavens. He rules over all things from His exalted throne. While He “humbles Himself to behold the things that are in heaven and in the earth,” think about the humility He demonstrated centuries after this psalm was written. The one true, supreme and all glorious God set aside His riches and privileges to become a man and “humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross” (Phil. 2:8). We will gather Sunday to worship the Sovereign God because God the Son humbled Himself to bring us to the Father and to make us true worshipers. May we enter corporate worship with reverence, awe and gratitude for this God who has brought us to Himself through this humiliating, blood-bought way.
