And suddenly there appeared with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased” (Luke 2:13-14).As marvelous as it was, the shepherds observed even more than an angel’s announcement heralding the Messiah’s arrival. A multitude of heavenly beings joined the angel and poured forth a message of joyous praise. They gave glory to God and pronounced there would be peace on earth. That peace, however, would come only among those “with whom He is pleased.” Faith in the Savior whom God had now sent was, and is, required to please God, and it is the only pathway to peace. The Holy One had left the glory of Heaven to bring peace to those who were His enemies by their sin nature. How the angels marveled at this.
